Born on a mountain, raised in a cave... That WOULD be pretty cool, but Born in a hospital, raised in a beauty parlor... is closer to the truth.

The second of six children to Leo & Olive Bernard, Neal was born in the Deep South, way down yonder... in south New Hampshire, damn near Massachusetts!

While his father worked and his mother did heads in her beauty shop he spent his days avoiding education and his nights listening to the sounds of elephants, tigers and monkeys outside. (Benson’s Wild Animal Farm was across the pond from the house)

At the age of 8 he went to work picking peas for 60 cents a bushel. Young Neal knew he couldn’t do this for the rest of his life so he quit after 17 minutes and took up clarinet, followed by sax and at the age of 11 upgraded to a $30 guitar. He eventually began singing and writing songs.

Neal’s other great joy is making people laugh.

Since his teens he has spent as much time as he could on stage making music and/or comedy....sometimes intentionally!

He has lived in various locations including Iceland, Sicily, Maryland, Connecticut, California, Colorado and North Carolina where he resides today.

His current band is named Neal D. Bluesman & Associates.

You may be asking yourself “Why is he Neal D. Bluesman if he plays all kinds of stuff and not just blues?”

Well, every once in a while you find your self married to a schizo-hooker in Southern California and have her name tattooed on your arm. When the dust settles (5 minutes later) you cover up that name with “Bluesman”. Not because you play the blues, but because you LIVE them. Eventually people start calling you Bluesman because they think that’s your name.... so I just went with it. I’ve been Neal D. Bluesman since 1992... and probably will be for life.
